Short Bio
Michael Duffy is Professor and past Director of Training of the doctoral program in counseling psychology at Texas A&M University. He is a Past President (1996) of Texas Psychological Association. A Fellow of the American Psychological Association, he also holds several APA appointments including member of the APA Committee on Aging and APA Division 17 Liaison to the Division of Counseling Psychology of the British Psychological Society, of which he is a member, Chartered Psychologist and expatriate. His training includes the Licentiate in Theology from the Angelicum University, Rome, Italy, the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology from University College, Dublin, Ireland and the Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. Dr. Duffy teaches psychotherapy theory and practice with adolescents, couples, families and has a special interest in psychotherapy with older adults; he is currently editor of the recent �Handbook of Counseling and Psychotherapy with Older Adults� published by Wiley and Sons, Inc. (1999). His research includes intergenerational family relations, geriatric crisis management, mental health in long term care, behavioral effects of environmental design in geriatric facilities, religious dimensions of psychotherapy, developmental psychotherapy and personality styles of psychotherapists. He has also developed two paraprofessional training programs for providing volunteer mental health services in nursing homes (Project OHSIS) and in middle schools (School Families). Michael Duffy is a Licensed Psychologist in Texas and a National Register Health Service Provider and practices psychology as a clinical supervisor of doctoral students and as a psychotherapist in independent practice. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology.
Dr. Duffy is published in such journals as The Gerontologist, The Journal of Long Term Care, The Clinical Gerontologist, The Journal of Clinical Psychology and Professional Psychology. |
