Short Bio
Dr. Nicksic joined the TAMU Division of Health in 2015 after completing her doctorate in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University in Texas in Austin. With over ten years of experience as a public school classroom teacher in grades ranging from kindergarten through seventh, Dr. Nicksic's research targets classroom physical activity. A relatively new field, classroom physical activity refers to student engagement in physical activity within the general education classroom as facilitated by the classroom teacher. Dr. Nicksic's research projects include the assessment of perceived barriers to classroom physical activity implementation among classroom teachers and the creation, dissemination, and review of a professional development training for elementary classroom teachers to promote physical activity in the classroom. Classroom physical activity is one component of the nationally-recognized Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program designed to improve the health and well-being of school-aged youth.
